The Jails Were Not Made To Be Mental Hospitals

Russell Ables is by no means the only person in Oklahoma being treated this way. This weekend I spoke with other families who share a similar injustice. All of it is happening because 20 years ago the state politicians bought the line that we don't need residential mental health facilities anymore.

  1. but how do we declare or decide who is really mentally ill ? this can be used as a scapegoat just like anything else so who decides here ? Jurys are not Phycologist nor are they educated in physcology all courts deem is who knows the difference between right and wrong , I can know the difference, but that does not mean one is sane. and their assumption is wrong , we do need mental facilities but only if people are being treated and not drugged, which seems to be the case in most instances , and their is a big difference between mentally impaired and insane, just because society deem one mentally impaired, does not mean they cant live a full life , different then ours perhaps, but never the less a full life .

  2. Compassion requires that we attend to the needs of those who are less fortunate. Mentally impaired people NEED for the rest of us to care about them.
